Spill Beading Up on Carpet Treated with Teflon

Teflon Carpet Protector provides long-lasting protection against spills and stains.

Assurance of long-lasting protection with extra repellency with Teflon Carpet Protector

Build your bottom line from the carpet up by using Advanced Teflon - increase your profits by 50% in a single sale!

Teflon Advanced is a new, improved carpet protector that provides superior repellency and outstanding soil protection for all types of residential carpet. Teflon helps carpets stay cleaner, brighter, newer and fresher through all kinds of daily wear! Creates a unique invisible shield around carpet fibers.

Today, almost all carpets are protected at the mill during the manufacturing process. However, it is important to maintain this protection with an application of an after-market carpet protector like DuPont™ Teflon® Advanced. Think of it like waxing your new car to keep it looking as good as the day you bought it. Soil, stains, traffic and even aggressive spot cleaning are all enemies of carpets. Teflon® Advanced helps supplement the mill-applied protection to keep carpets looking as good as they possibly can.

Teflon carpet protector provides more repellency than other leading carpet protectors, along with outstanding soil protection. This means your customers can be assured of cleaner carpets longer, and that means more satisfied customers for you.

The improved, advanced repellency of Teflon Advanced carpet protector provides extra time to clean up spills, minimizes wicking and the spreading of stains. Teflon Advanced is more resistant to oil-based and water-based stains than ever, thanks to its higher repellency. And it creates a unique invisible shield around carpet fibers, keeping dirt from sticking to fibers.

Dirt and stains cling to untreated carpet and quickly become embedded in the fibers. Teflon Advanced creates a powerful invisible shield around the carpet’s fibers to keep dirt from lodging within the carpet. The same technology that keeps foods from sticking to pots and pans prevents dirt and grime from sticking to the carpet.

For the consumer, keeping her carpet looking like new is now easier than ever. A professional cleaning will brighten and freshen her carpet, but every time someone walks into her house, they track in dirt. Once dirt gets into her carpet, it gets ground in deeper with every step. Now add the effects of spills, stains and crumbs that get trapped in her carpet. That’s why she needs to protect her freshly cleaned carpet with Teflon Advanced carpet protector.

You should reapply Teflon Advanced after each cleaning on all carpet types, even those with built-in soil and stain protection. Reinforces stain-blocking qualities of stain-resist nylon fibers.

For added protection and increased peace of mind, Teflon Advanced carpet protector is CFC- and solvent-free and leaves no unpleasant odor.

Teflon Carpet Protector protects all kinds of carpets and helps carpets look cleaner and fresher longer.

Spraying Teflon.Directions for Applying and Using Teflon Carpet Protector:

Teflon is simply diluted in water (4 parts water to 1 part concentrate or 1 to 8 with water for dry carpet) and sprayed onto freshly cleaned damp carpet at 40 psi.

Apply with an 8004 Tee jet nozzle at the rate of 200 square feet per gallon of diluted product. A stainless steel sprayer with a special fan-shaped nozzle attachment (#8004 nozzle) is recommended as the applicator. However, the electric powered Multi-Sprayer® or the Spray 1® is much easier and faster to use.

Spray Teflon with a 50% overlapIt is recommended that you allow 50% overlap and brush or rake the carpet after treatment of the carpet with Teflon. The carpet will feel stiff for a few days after the treatment. Wipe off any spray on furniture, baseboards, etc., while wet.

Allow 4 days for maximum protection. Always rake in Teflon Carpet Protector after application for even coverage.

To prevent accumulation of dried Teflon in spray equipment, clean with fresh water after each use.

Frequently Asked Questions about Teflon Carpet Protector

Does Cleaning Remove the Teflon Protector?

Some Teflon Advanced carpet protector is removed from the fiber from heavy traffic or aggressive cleaning. Some product may also be removed by strong cleaning agents and chemicals. It is generally recommended to re-apply Teflon Advanced each time the carpet is cleaned.

What is the difference between the mill applied and after market products?

The mill applied products are formulated for drying in the high temperature ovens found in carpet mills, while the home applied products are formulated to dry at ambient temperatures. Because the mill applied products are “baked on”, they are typically more durable, depending upon the product. However, Teflon Advanced has good durability and provides valuable protection against soil and stains.

How often should protectors be applied?

Since the biggest enemy of the protectors is abrasion from traffic, and traffic varies with each situation, the general recommendation for re-application is after each cleaning. The same conditions that led to the need for cleaning probably have led to the need to refresh the carpet protection.

    How are carpet warranties affected?

Carpet mills recommend reapplication of Protector to maintain their warranties.

DuPont recommends the application of Teflon Advanced after each cleaning on all carpet types, even those with built-in soil and stain protection. Reinforces stain-blocking qualities of stain-resist nylon fibers, such as Stainmaster®.

    Why apply Teflon Advanced?

First, because DuPont Teflon Advanced Carpet Protector provides a valuable service for your customers - it keeps the carpet looking good longer. From a business perspective, Teflon Advanced will improve customer satisfaction and increase profitability on the job. Two very important reasons!

Can Teflon Advanced be applied to upholstery?

Yes, Teflon Advanced also works on upholstery that is not subject to water damage as is silk and other more exotic fabrics. Teflon Advanced is suitable to protect upholstery made from most cotton, nylon, polyester and blends of these fibers. But, if water damage or dye bleeding is a possibility or a concern, do not apply the product.

Will Teflon Advanced work on Olefin (polypropylene) fibers?

Yes, tests prove that the new Teflon Advanced even works on olefin

How does Teflon Advanced compare to 3M’s Scotchgard™?

How to sell more carpet protector more effectively:

FIRST, understand the selling environment – and your customers’ attitudes. To sell effectively, you must understand the selling environment – what are the barriers to selling carpet protectors, what do customers really think about carpet protectors, what do they know and what don’t they know?

According to a recent study, the potential for increased sales of carpet protectors is huge! Among consumers surveyed, the satisfaction level of those who have purchased carpet protectors is also very high. The relatively small number of consumers who were disappointed stated that the carpet did not resist stains and dirt. Some didn’t believe the protectant had even been applied. And, even more important, the majority of consumers who did not use protectants were not negative at all about the concept. They simply didn’t understand it.

In the same study, carpet cleaning professionals stated that perceived lack of effectiveness and price were the primary barriers to selling carpet and upholstery protector. Although most professionals offer carpet protectors to their customers, those who don’t either don’t believe the products work, or they are concerned about drying time.

The survey also showed discrepancies between professional carpet cleaners’ beliefs and consumers’ actual attitudes.

Here are the top reasons professional cleaners believe consumers decline the offer of carpet and upholstery protection:

    • Price … 66%
    • Don’t believe they work … 47%
    • Carpet already treated … 46%
    • Lack of trust in benefits … 38%
    • Not safe for children and pets … 16%
    • Drying time too long … 15%

And here are the top reasons consumers said they declined the offer:

    • Not offered or didn’t recall offer 20%
    • Old/stained/moving/renter … 18%
    • Price … 12%
    • Carpet already treated … 11%
    • Don’t believe they work … 5%
    • Allergies/safety issues … 4%

It’s interesting to compare the two, noting that among consumers, “drying time” didn’t even make the list, and “price” was only a minor consideration. These inconsistencies underscore the fact that professional cleaners should not let preconceived notions or industry “myths” prevent them from offering Teflon® Advanced on every job. Further, they reinforce the need for carpet and upholstery protector education among consumers and carpet cleaning professionals so that consumers’ expectations are realistic, and the carpet cleaner’s knowledge base is solid.

NEXT, understand the benefits of Teflon® Advanced.

Make sure you understand and can discuss all of the benefits of Teflon® Advanced with your customers. The information in the first two sections of this CD should give you everything you need to know about carpet and upholstery protectors in general and Teflon® Advanced in particular. You should understand and be prepared to talk to your customers about carpet and upholstery protectors and how they work; and about Teflon® Advanced, and why it’s the best carpet and upholstery protector available. Once you’re comfortable with this knowledge, it will be a lot easier to sell the service to your customer. Here are some tips to make it even easier to sell DuPont™ Teflon® Advanced:

    1. Offer Teflon® Advanced with every cleaning. Many customers are repeat customers – don’t assume they either want or don’t want carpet and upholstery protection just because they had it or didn’t have it last time.
    2. Offer Teflon® Advanced to your customer multiple times. When the job is scheduled; when you arrive on the job; and when you are finished. Just because a customer says “no” the first time, doesn’t mean she won’t change her mind once she understands all of the benefits. You can help explain these benefits and help persuade her to give Teflon® Advanced a try.
    3. Offer Teflon® Advanced on all fiber types. Teflon® Advanced is effective on all carpet types – natural and synthetic. It is also recommended for water-safe upholstery fabrics.
    4. Offer Teflon® Advanced on carpets with mill-applied protection. Many customers think that they don’t need added protection if they have a carpet that has built-in soil and stain protection. An application of Teflon® Advanced will assure continued soil and stain protection after these carpets have been professionally shampooed or steam-cleaned.
    5. Take the Teflon® Advanced jug with you into your customer’s home. When she sees that you are using this well-known quality brand, it will help boost her confidence and close the sale.
    6. Use a “blotter” card that is half treated with protector to demonstrate how Teflon® Advanced works. It’s an easy demonstration with dramatic results that all customers can relate to.
    7. Use the consumer brochure with customers to reinforce the benefits of carpet and upholstery protection and Teflon® Advanced. Leave the brochure behind as a reinforcement and reminder. You can also encourage your customer to “tell a friend” about Teflon® Advanced.
    8. Use the “tips” label on your clipboard to make sure you’ve covered all the advantages of Teflon® Advanced.
    9. Refer to your checklist to make sure you’ve covered everything.
    10. Always be confident and enthusiastic about Teflon® Advanced carpet and upholstery protectors. Your enthusiasm will rub off on your customers and help close the sale.
    11. Ask for the order! Don’t be afraid to ask for the order after you’ve explained all the reasons why your customers should protect their carpets and upholstery with DuPont™ Teflon® Advanced. It should be an easy sell, once they understand how it can benefit them long term.

And finally, a word to owners: Reward your technicians for a job well done! You’ll reap the rewards of increased profitability when your technicians add on carpet and upholstery protection to a regular carpet and upholstery cleaning job. Let them share in the success by showing your appreciation for their hard work and skillful selling.
